Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR), a global provider of cloud and carrier-neutral data center, colocation and interconnection services, has acquired a majority stake in Teraco Data Environments, from Berkshire Partners and Permira.Berkshire and Permira funds will retain minority equity interest in the firm.

Teraco Data is an African carrier-neutral data center and interconnection services offerer. The firm’s facilities provide secure colocation and related services to over 600 carrier, cloud, content and enterprise customers. The firm represents part of Africa’s internet backbone through its data center infrastructure and network dense ecosystems.

“Over the last seven years, Teraco has transformed itself into one of the most unique data center platforms globally,” said Pierre Pozzo, a principal at Permira. “Today, Teraco combines the very rare characteristics of offering an interconnection-rich ecosystem, being Africa’s home to the Cloud, while also owning the African Internet Exchange, Napafrica.”
