BHP is no longer pursuing a potential acquisition of Anglo American, ending recent talks that aimed to disrupt Anglo’s proposed merger with Teck Resources.
The announcement, reported by Reuters, follows a series of preliminary discussions that reportedly did not progress after Anglo’s rejection of the new overture. This development comes ahead of a shareholder vote on the Anglo-Teck (NYSE: TECK) merger.
Anglo American, a U.K.-based multinational mining company, has operations spanning Africa, Australia and the Americas, and is a major global producer of copper, platinum group metals, and diamonds. Its proposed merger with Canada-based Teck Resources would significantly enhance its copper portfolio and global scale, aligning with the industry’s pivot toward energy transition metals.
