Xcel Brands Inc. has acquired the Judith Ripka brand and related intellectual property for $22.5 million.

Judith Ripka is a jewelry and watch brand that is sold in stores including Saks and Bloomingdales.

The purchase price works out to $14 million in cash and $6 million in promissory notes, plus shares of Xcel's common stock.

Xcel Brands, headquartered in New York, is a brand management company that also owns Isaac Mizrahi and has an interest in Liz Claiborne New York.

Other recent consumer goods transactions include Acon Investments LLC's purchase of Igloo Products Corp., the maker of Igloo coolers, Steven Madden Ltd.'s (Nasdaq: SHOO) purchase of luxury designer Brian Atwood, and the Blackstone Group's purchase of a stake in fashion house Gianni Versace SPA
