Mergers & Acquisitions Mid-Market Deals of the Year is the annual awards program from Mergers & Acquisitions that honors the most significant middle-market M&A transactions completed during the year. Started in 2007, it is the longest-running awards program honoring middle market dealmakers. The awards recognize outstanding transactions across the middle market based on strategic significance, execution and impact rather than size alone. Winning deals include all parties involved in the transaction: buyer, seller, and all advisors including bankers, lawyers and lenders. Winners are chosen by the editors of Mergers & Acquisitions from deals nominated each year by dealmakers and their advisers.
Mid-Market Deals of the Year recognizes middle-market M&A transactions completed during the year with deal sizes up to $1 billion. Deals are judged on strategic significance, complexity, execution and sector impact beyond transaction size alone. Winning entries are typically a mix of smaller and larger transactions.
Winners are selected by the editors of Mergers & Acquisitions from transactions nominated each year by dealmakers, advisers and firms. The team evaluates each deal’s rationale, execution and significance to the middle market before naming the honorees.
Unlike programs focused on private equity exits and return multiples, Mid-Market Deals of the Year covers M&A transactions across the entire middle market and weighs strategic significance over size. Additionally, it recognizes all players in specific deals, as opposed to naming one ‘Law Firm of the Year’. Mergers & Acquisitions Mid-Market Deals of the Year is also the longest-running deal-awards program dedicated specifically to the mid-market.
Nominations open each year in January and are typically due in early March, with winners announced at the start of May coinciding with the publishing of the May/June issue of Mergers & Acquisitions.
