WorldCom Group Inc recently announced that it would explore strategic alternatives for its stake in General Communications Inc. (GCI) And one analyst expected few buyers would brave the Alaskan tundra for a piece of GCI. Anchorage,Alaska-based GCI provides local/long-distance and Internet services within the state of Alaska. The $600 million market cap company has four business segments: long-distance, local access, cable and Internet services. The company posted strong third quarter numbers-gaining $24.3 million on revenue of $88 million, compared with year-earlier earnings of $19 million on revenue of $76 million.
