Arbs, of course, want to gather as much information about a takeout situation as possible and often try to do so by talking with the bankers. An M&A banker at a white-shoe firm, though, mentioned the arbs who call him, in addition to trying to glean information, offer him advice on handling certain issues in a transaction. The banker recently spoke to Mergers & Acquisitions Report off the record about his experience dealing with the merger arbitage community.
