China is where a lot of M&A and investment action is centered today, and several firms coaxed dealmaking specialists focused on the region away from competitors in recent weeks. Buyout giant KKR recently hired two pros to help spearhead expansion in Asia: David Liu, former managing director and co-head of Morgan Stanley Private Equity Asia, and Ming Lu, who had been a partner at CCMP Capital Asia. Wei Christianson, former chairman of China for Citigroup Global Markets, is now a managing director and CEO for China at Morgan Stanley. And Morgan Stanley’s former China chief executive, Jonathan Zhu, has ended up at Bain Capital, where he’s a managing director and a founding member of the firm’s Asia investment team. Zhu is one of several high-profile names to have left Morgan Stanley in recent months to join a PE firm. (c) 2006 Mergers and Acquisitions Journal and SourceMedia, Inc.
