Private equity firm the Blackstone Group is partnering with The Weather Channel, one of the companies it owns, and co-investors Bain Capital and NBC Universal, to match donations to the Red Cross Sandy Disaster Relief Fund, up to $1 million.

Donations reached the $1 million mark on Tuesday, according to a Blackstone spokeswoman.

The Weather Channel is a cable news channel with meteorologists and experts that provided advice to state and federal officials in planning for Hurricane Sandy. The company also provides weather information online and from a mobile application.

Another Blackstone portfolio company, industrial real estate company IndCor, is providing the Red Cross with 126,000 square feet of space in Jersey City, N.J. for disaster relief related to Hurricane Sandy for the next 90 days.
