“The ascent of Everest was not the work of one day, nor even of those few unforgettable weeks in which we climbed…It is, in fact, a tale of sustained and tenacious endeavor by many, over a long period of time.- Sir John Hunt, scaled Mount Everest in 1953. I joined ACG in 1989 when it was about 35 years old. In the 15 years since, the organization has almost tripled in membership and doubled in chapter locations! I attended my first ACG InterGrowth in 1996. In April 2005, the attendance more than doubled that of the 1996 event. We are living and experiencing what our name describes – growing our business worldwide! For those of you who attended InterGrowth in 2005, you experienced a very robust and vibrant conference. The leadership training workshops on Tuesday and Wednesday were outstanding and valuable. The presentations and breakout sessions on Thursday and Friday were excellent. The networking among the attendees was le coup de grace as we “made the connection.” InterGrowth is a big reason ACG is experiencing such a significant growth curve. In our market, Orange County, ACG has been and continues to be one of the two or three leading business organizations. Ever since I was the chapter president 10 years ago when we were among the fastest growing chapters in ACG, we have continued to build and improve upon our product and services. We have focused on delivering value to our members through programs and networking opportunities. This summer we expanded our outreach to offer events in North Orange County to include the broader marketplace and expand our membership recruitment base. Now that we are midway through the first decade of the new millennium, ACG continues to grow and adapt to a rapidly changing and global business environment. The significant changes to the format of InterGrowth this year are a prime example of this fact. Like any successful organization, we will continue to grow and flourish as long as we regularly confirm and/or refine our vision, execute our plan and continually attract talented, ambitious new members. The opportunities for ACG in the years ahead to serve its customers are plentiful, and I am optimistic we will live up to our name as we work together to further grow the premier global association for professionals involved in corporate growth, corporate development, and mergers and acquisitions for mid to large companies.
