New York private equity firm Sentinel Capital Partners has closed a deal for Checkers Drive-In Restaurants Inc. for an undisclosed amount.

Checkers operates 782 Checkers and Rally's restaurants, including 450 franchised and 332 company-owned locations. The restaurants sell burgers, chicken wings, hot dogs, French fries and other items.

Sentinel's other franchise investments have included Border Foods, a Taco Bell franchisee, Cottman Transmission Systems, a franchisor of transmission repair centers, Falcon Holdings, a franchisee of Church's Chicken restaurants, Huddle House, a current investment and franchisor of family dining restaurants and Interim Healthcare, a franchisor of home-based health care services.

The private equity firm focuses on investing in lower middle market companies in the U.S. and Canada. In December, Sentinel closed a $258 million deal for Power Products, the electrical segment of Actuant Corp. (NYSE: ATU). In August, the firm closed its fifth fund with $1.3 billion in capital commitments

Recent restaurant transactions include the takeover of Chuck E. Cheese operator CEC Entertainment Inc. by Apollo Global Management LLCin January, and Roark Capital Group's purchase of Carl's Jr. and Hardee's restaurant chains in December.
