Baker Tilly Virchow Krause LLP-Baker Tilly is merging with York, Pennsylvania-based accounting firm SF & CO, effective Nov. 1. SF has more than 100 employees across the Pennsylvania counties of York, Harrisburg and State College focusing on privately-held companies, high net worth individuals and not-for-profit organizations. Baker Tilly is a Chicago-based accounting firm that has a presence in about 130 countries.
Comvest Partners- The middle-market lender hired Jon Huitink as a principal to join the firm’s new Chicago office. Huitink was a previously a senior vice president at Golub Capital, where he originated and underwrote senior and junior secured debt investments along with restructuring distressed investments. He also held positions at Dymas Capital Management, LaSalle Bank and Salomon Smith Barney.
GulfStar Group- The Houston middle-market investment bank recently promoted Roshan Gummattira from senior vice president to managing director and named him to lead the firm’s technology group. Before joining GulfStar, Gummattira worked as a technology investment banker for JMP Securities in San Francisco and before JMP, was a software engineer for Texas Instruments. GulfStar’s technology group focuses on companies with enterprise values between $25 million to $350 million.
HGGC- Hudson Smith and Neil White have been promoted to managing director at the middle-market private equity firm. In addition, the firm promoted Farouk Hussein and Steven Leistner to principal. Both Smith and White have been with HGGC since 2009. Smith comes from Bain & Co., while White was previously with Och-Ziff Capital Management. Hussein has been with HGGC since 2012, coming from JMI Equity. Leistner joined HGGC in 2009. Before HGGC, he used to work at McKinsey & Co. HGGC won Mergers and Acquisition’s 2014 M&A Mid-Mark Private Equity Firm of the Year.
K&L Gates LLP- Carlos White joined the Dallas offfice of K&L Gates as part of the firm’s M&A practice. He comes over from McGlinchey Stafford PLLC. White focuses on private equity firms, medical equipment manufacturers and hotel and hospitality companies.
Matrix Capital Markets Group Inc. - The Richmond, Virgina-based investment bank has promoted Pratik Thakral to senior analyst in the firm’s consumer and industrial group. In addition, Carlton Zeschhas recently joined Matrix as analyst where he will be working with all the industry teams.
Strategic Value Partners LLC-The distressed investment firm appointed Flip Huffard to its advisory council. Huffard has about 25 years of restructuring experience. Before SVP, Huffard held positions at Blackstone, Hellmold Associates Inc. and Smith Barney Harris Upham & Co.
Savant Capital Management- the investment advisory firm announced plans to acquire the Corcoran Group. As a result, TCG president Phil Corcoran will join Savant’s McLean, Virgina, office as a managing director. TCG vice president Joel Cundick will also join the McLean office.
Weller Equity-Kenneth Berryman, a director at CapitalSouth Growth Fund in Louisville, Kentucky, is starting a new lower middle-market private equity firm called Weller Equity. At Weller, Berryman is focusing on majority and minority equity investments in the Kentucky and the MidSouth region. Weller targets the manufacturing, food and beverage and health care industries with companies that have $5 million to $50 million in revenue. Berryman was the chair of InterGrowth 2014.
