Private equity firm Oakfield Capital Partners agreed to invest £1 million (U.S.$1.5 million) in Freedom Brewery, a microbrewer of craft beer. Both companies are based in London. Oakfield seeks to double Freedom Brewer’s operating capacity and expand sales and marketing.

The transaction highlights the heated land grab of regional craft breweries among strategic buyers and private equity firms. Demand by PE firms and major brewers, such as MillerCoors, owned by SABMiller plc (LON: SAB) and Molson Coors Brewing Co. (NYSE: TAP), could force open the tap as the company is regularly in the market for acquisitions, while winemaker Constellation Brands Inc. may also look to acquire craft brewers.
