San Francisco-based law firm Pillsbury Winthrop didn’t take a rival’s press release about the defection of one of its partners lying down. Instead, it posted a vitriolic response on the newswires guaranteed to ruffle a few feathers. The whole palaver began Sept. 3, when Latham & Watkins issued a release announcing former Pillsbury corporate securities partner Frode Jensen’s appointment to its New York office. Previously, Jensen worked in Pillsbury’s Stamford, Conn., office.
