American Pharmaceutical Partners – This specialty drug company has named Bruce J. Wendel as VP of corporate development. Previously, he had been at Bristol-Myers Squibb, starting as in-house counsel then shifting to business and corporate development. Banc of America Securities – Joining the firm as managing directors in its technology investment banking team are Jeffrey Liu, Stephen Month, Georg Schloendorff, and Sean Rogers. Month, Schloendorff, and Rogers are based in New York while Liu is in San Francisco. Liu, a former head of software investment banking at Deutsche Bank, most recently had served as executive-in-residence at New Enterprise Associates, a venture capital firm. Month, backed by 20 years of investment banking experience, joined from Citigroup, where he most recently had been a managing director and head of life sciences m&a. Schloendorff previously was with Credit Suisse First Boston, working on telecommunication m&a and specializing in wireless communications. Rogers most recently was part of Citigroup’s technology investment banking team. In other BofA news, Stanley W. Holtz has come aboard as a managing director and head of wireless telecommunications in the firm’s media and telecom corporate and investment banking group. He is based in the Chicago office. Before joining the firm, Holtz had been a managing director and head of the wireless communications services sector at UBS Investment Bank. Berkery, Noyes & Co. – Extending its reach in to the business-to-business information market, the firm has hired Richard Weinstein as a managing director, in which capacity he provides deal advisory services to companies that provide business-to-business information via the Internet. Previously, Weinstein had led the mergers and acquisitions team at Dun & Bradstreet. Candela Corp. – Medical laser manufacturer Candela has named Catherine A. Kniker as VP of corporate strategic development. Previously, she had been VP of strategy and research at Genuity Inc., where she negotiated the sale of Genuity to Level 3 Communications. Capitalink – The investment banking firm recently established a valuation services division, and hired John Mackle to head the new division. Mackle, the former CFO of LiveOps Inc., a Silicon Valley-based provider of outsourced call center services, has held senior-level valuation positions at Arthur Andersen and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Dechert – The law firm’s New York office enhanced its corporate and securities practice with the recent hiring of Bonnie A. Barsamian. She joined the firm from Clifford Chance, where she had been a partner. Galen Capital Group – Michael J. Kane has joined the firm as a managing director. He also leads Galen’s new Nashville office. Kane joined the firm from FractionAir, a company that sells partial ownership stakes in private aircraft. As part of his contract with Galen, Kane continues to serve as EVP, CFO, and a member of the board of directors at FractionAir. Goldman Sachs Group – Christopher Cole, co-head of investment banking, has been named as chairman of the firm’s investment banking division, in which capacity he identifies new business opportunities. Cole had run Goldman’s investment banking division along with John Weinberg and Scott Kapnick, who remain co-heads of the division. Isonics Corp. – Isonics board member Lindsay Gardner has joined the firm as VP of corporate development and strategic planning. She had been director of corporate development and strategic planning at Menasha Corp., a privately held manufacturing company. Isonics develops isotopically engineered materials. Lightyear Capital – Private equity firm Lightyear has promoted SVP David Glenn to managing director. Glenn, who joined Lightyear in 2001, previously had been a partner at Greenhill & Co., specializing in the financial services industry. Also joining the firm is Gun H. Keresteci, SVP. He comes from McKinsey & Co., where he had been a partner and a member of the firm’s financial institutions practice leadership group, advising companies on strategy, acquisitions, and alliances. Merrill Lynch & Co. – One of Merrill’s top investment bankers in Europe, Philip Yates, has been promoted to head the firm’s global m&a business in New York. He works with Steve Baronoff, who is Merrill’s current global head of m&a. SUPERVALU Inc. – Anthony Pellegrin has been named VP of corporate development, in which capacity he leads the grocery chain’s acquisition and divestiture activities. He joined the company from Honeywell International, where he most recently had been general counsel for the company’s sensing and control division. Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault The Boston-based law firm, which caters to high-tech clients and venture capital firms, has named F. George Davitt as its managing partner. Davitt, who has been with the firm since 1993, most recently had been a partner in Testa’s business practice group, focusing on corporate and securities deals. Updata Capital – Updata, an adviser on IT m&a, has promoted VP Greg Treger to SVP. Treger, who is based in the Reston, Va., office, is responsible for Updata’s application software sector activities. Before joining the firm in 1997, he had worked as a CPA at Deloitte & Touche in Seattle. Also joining the firm is Kevin A. McNerney, a partner in its Reston office. Previously, he had been a senior managing partner at Heidrick & Struggles and had led the firm’s global technology and professional services practice. Updata also recently announced several promotions of SVPs to partner: Michael Parent and Don More (Red Bank, N.J., office) and Chuck Ashley (Reston office). Before joining the firm as an associate in 1995, Parent had worked at Chemical Bank as an associate in corporate finance and as a credit officer in capital markets. More, who joined Updata in 1998 as a VP, formerly had been an investment banker at Merrill Lynch. Ashley, who joined Updata in 2000, previously had founded and served as president of Cyrex Communications, a broadband wireless communication services provider. Before that, he held various investment banking, business development, and corporate law positions. Y&M Partners – Consultant Jay A. Ruffin joined this Beverley Hills-based boutique investment banking firm as senior partner. He joined Y&M from his own firm, Ruffin & Associates, a consulting practice focusing on the energy, entertainment, health care, and finance industries.
