After three months of declines, deal flow rose in October, according to the Mid-Market M&A Conditions Index (MACI), a barometer created by Mergers & Acquisitions. (See related graphic.)
The first month of the fourth quarter provided a wealth of opportunities for dealmakers to network, including a trio of ACG conferences in Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Chicago. The networking paid off in early-stage deal flow and was reflected in the high Leads score, which jumped more than 10 points on the MACI.
The score for Completed Deals, however, continued to fall. Derived from monthly surveys of approximately 250 executives, the MACI is a diffusion index. Readings above 50 indicate an expansion in M&A activity, and readings below 50 show a contraction.
