Kelso & Co.-backed Eagle Family Foods Group LLC is buying J.M Smucker Co.'s (NYSE: SJM) U.S. canned milk brands.
The group includes products sold in U.S. retail and food services channels under the Eagle Brand and Magnolia brands, plus other lines and private-label names. The business has net sales of about $200 million. Eagle's acquisition also includes two related manufacturing facilities in El Paso, Texas, and Seneca, Missouri.
Eagle Family Foods sells condensed milk, which is traditionally used in baked goods such as pies and muffins. The company is backed by funds affiliated with private equity firm Kelso, which is based in New York. Kelso's recent deal activity includes the purchase of Sirius Computer Solutions Inc. from Thoma Bravo, and an investment in US LBM Holdings, a building products company.
Smucker has been involved with several deals recently. In March, the seller of, jam, coffee and other packaged foods closed a deal for Big Heart Pet Brands. In 2014, the company picked up Sahale Snacks, and sold a distribution facility to W.P. Carey Inc. (NYSE: WPC).
Debvoise & Plimpton advised Kelso on the deal.
