Jawbone is buying BodyMedia, a company that makes wearable body monitors, reportedly for $110 million.

Pittsburgh-based BodyMedia, founded in 1999, develops around-the-clock arm-band body monitors for weight and calorie management, fitness and sleep.  The bands are used by contestants on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser.”

Jawbone, headquartered in San Francisco, develops speakers Jambox and Big Jambox, as well as Bluetooth headsets and noise cancelation headsets. The company is making the acquisition to move into the wearable health technology and personal data analysis space.
