IMS Health (NYSE: IMS) has acquired Dataline Software, which provides analytics to the health care industry.

Brighton, England-based Dataline's software aims to provide health care professionals with cost-of-care insights. The company's technology creates data analysis and visualizations.

Danbury, Connecticut-based IMS Health provides cloud-based software to health care companies with the goal of providing insights into diseases, treatments, costs and outcomes. Customers include pharmaceutical, consumer health and medical device manufacturers, providers, payers, government agencies, policymakers, researchers and financial companies.

Companies have been upping their health care technology as the Affordable Care Act brings more patients into the U.S. health care system. Recent M&A transactions in the space include the merger of Medytox Solutions Inc. and CollabRx Inc., and KPMG LLP's purchase of health care consulting firm Beacon Partners Inc.
