Joe Haslip has been named deputy comptroller of pensions for the City of New York, according to an industry source familiar with the situation, as reported in Investment Management Weekly, a sister publication of Merger Mogul. Haslip replaces Horatio Sparkes who resigned from the position in September for a job in the private equity market. At that time, Haslip was appointed assistant comptroller for pensions. Previously, he was special assistant to the New York City Comptroller William Thompson. Meanwhile, Stewart Dier, has joined the New York City Retirement Systems as director of public equities, according to published reports. Dier joins from Nicholas-Applegate Capital Management where he was head of RFPs and market analytics
