Cantel Medical Corp. (NYSE: CMN) has acquired medical device business Medical Innovations Group Holdings Ltd. for $79.5 million.

Medical Innovations, headquartered in Essex, U.K., provides endoscope storage and transport systems called CleanaScope and SureStore. The company specializes in infection prevention.

The acquisition allows Cantel to increase its footprint in the infection prevention and endoscopy markets. The business specializes in infection prevention, and provides medical device reprocessing systems for endoscopy, renal dialysis, advanced water purification equipment, disinfectants, monitoring products and other devices. The company has made other acquisitions and added PuriCore International Ltd. in June 2014.

There are a few other companies that specialize in infection prevention that are making acquisitons. In March, PGI Specialty Materials Inc., which makes engineered fabrics (like surgical gowns and face masks) aimed at avoiding infections, acquired Douner Sas.

Other recent medical device deals include Medtronic plc's deal for Twelve Inc., a maker of a heart-related product, and St Jude Medical's deal for Thoratec Corp., a maker of implantable heart aids.
