Hines Horticulture retained Credit Suisse First Boston to dig around for a sale of one of its units. The plant company’s announcement did not rock the Street, as its stock only rose 1.3% or five cents from its opening price to close at $3.76. At press time Hines’s stock closed at $3.69. Irvine, Calif.-based Hines produces a variety of plants and peat moss. Hines plans to divest its growing media (GM) division. GM is a combination of different soils mixes and peat moss, designed to give plants more nutrients. Hines sells to golf course developers and greenhouses.
