BP plc, which changed its name from BP Amoco in May, has put Vysis Inc., of which it is a majority owner, on the block. And an industry follower said a pharmaceutical giant could have its eye on Vysis. Dowers Grove, Ill.-based Vysis develops DNA-based clinical products that provide information used to screen, evaluate and treat cancer, in addition to prenatal disorders and other genetic diseases. BP acquired a 65.5% stake in $250 million market cap Vysis in 1998 when it acquired Amoco Corp. A BP spokeswoman said Vysis was part of venture company owned by Amoco.
