Ken exemplifies the spirit of ACG at its very best. He not only brought a high degree of professionalism to the organization and extraordinary commitment to his role on the ACG board, but also a contagious warmth and enthusiasm that flourish at ACG today. Kenneth J. Kovalcik, 60, an esteemed member of ACG New Jersey, passed away on January 22, following a courageous battle with cancer. Ken, as he was known to friends, joined ACG in 1978. Ken was an investment banker who earned a reputation for high integrity at KJK Associations and Arthur Andersen. He earned his B.S. degree in Accounting from Seton Hall University and was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New Jersey and New York Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Accounting Association, Institute of Management Accountants, and American Society of Notaries. He was a past International President of the Association for Corporate Growth and was appointed a Lifetime Honorary Director. As President, he developed the ACG mission statement along with a five-year growth plan, which became a key factor in the successful growth of ACG into the 11,000-member association it is today. He initiated the move of ACG toward international growth, leading the first International InterGrowth in London, which led to initial establishment of ACG international chapters. Ken also appointed the first non-U.S. board member. “Ken was a phenomenal resource for ACG. He developed a strategic plan that outlined the plan for ACG’s growth,” said colleague Alan Gelband, Past President of ACG. “He helped us recognize the important factor of treating members as customers and was helpful to me in terms of finding and enrolling key officers and directors.” Mark Kuehn, President of ACG New Jersey, noted: “Ken was instrumental in the creation of ACG New Jersey.
