On-line car retailer Autobytel Inc. has hired a merger expert to lead its corporate development team. Fresh off its first profitable quarter ever, Irvine, Calif.-based Autobytel announced Jan. 29 it hired Richard Walker to the newly created position of senior VP of corporate development. Autobytel posted a gain of $462,000 on sales of $20 million for the quarter, compared with a year-earlier loss of $896,000 on sales of $20.5 million. It expects to grow its sales organically by up to 10% over the next year. Walker previously led the corporate development team at MediaOne Group, acquired by AT&T Corp. for $57 billion in 2000. Walker started in his new position on Jan 21.
