With high goals and expectations set one year ago, we launched ACG InterGrowth in 2005. Desiring a crisp start, we analyzed each element of the program, venue, budget, goals, and objectives. Some of our goals included fulfilling the strategies of ACG; endorsing our brand; developing more opportunities for dealmaking; enhanced networking; showcasing the ACG chapters, including their programs, events, and conferences; and securing more involvement from the membership. With a backdrop of strong management and leadership from our ACG board of directors, chapter presidents, and previous ACG InterGrowth chairs, we moved forward with pride and enthusiasm. The uphill charge began, and several unexpected and pleasant surprises followed. One of the surprises was the unsurpassed support and assistance offered by many leaders of our ACG chapters. For example, with a year of elevated economic success, many speakers that had been previously available would not commit. Undaunted, the membership of ACG came through time and again with recommendations, backing, and input. From preeminent keynote speakers to top-level breakout sessions to ideas on how we could make this an outstanding conference, our thoughtful, informed, and helpful members offered a plethora of ideas to give shape to this InterGrowth conference. The strength of the ACG community and the solidarity of our organization were exemplified in this effort, which we coined the “Spirit of ACG.” During the process, we noted that ACG InterGrowth provided effective communication venues to afford professional interchange, generated more involvement of our membership, incorporated opportunities for recognition of ACG, and fostered creative ideas consistent with the organization’s goals to accelerate corporate growth. With the diversity of corporate, private equity, intermediary, and service provider team members, ACG InterGrowth demonstrated the effectiveness of the organization and its ability to deliver professional and enriching programs. The presence of ACG in its spirit and substance was demonstrated throughout ACG InterGrowth. The dealmaking opportunities at the conference were enhanced by the relationship-building meeting forums. Attendees enjoyed diverse and robust discussions from our keynote speakers – business, economic, and political international leaders – while taking in unique networking events intended to build rapport and develop professional growth. Networking was a primary focus of all elements of the conference, including participation from many of our members in an “ambassador” role to address the individual needs of attendees during the conference. The Spirit of ACG that was evidenced proved to be an enduring asset of the organization. It is a culture of trust that translates into dealmaking opportunities and corporate growth. It has been my distinct honor to serve as chair of ACG InterGrowth in 2005 and to carry forward the legacy of the “Spirit of ACG.” I look forward to continuing our efforts to communicate the results of the conference and successes of ACG. Your personal and chapter input into this effort will be invaluable. Ardelle St.George St.George & Carnegie Vice President ACG InterGrowth Conference Copyright 2005 Thomson Media Inc.
