Williams Cos. is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire rival natural gas pipeline operator Momentum Midstream from EnCap Flatrock Midstream for about $5.5 billion.

The transaction, if completed, would rank among the largest acquisitions in Williams’ (NYSE: WMB) history. Momentum Midstream operates approximately 4,000 miles of natural gas pipeline infrastructure across East Texas and northern Louisiana, serving 10 liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities and 26 power plants, Bloomberg reported. The company has expanded its footprint through acquisitions of midstream assets in the Haynesville region, positioning it as a key transporter of natural gas to LNG export terminals along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

The acquisition would strengthen Williams’ ability to serve growing LNG export demand as additional Gulf Coast export facilities come online over the remainder of the decade.
