Mergers & Acquisitions Report recently interviewed Bernard Shull, co-author of “Bank Mergers in a Deregulated Environment,” about the changing face of the banking industry and how that would impact future M&A transactions in the sector. Shull, who wrote the book with Gerald Hanweck, is a professor in the economics department of Hunter College and a member of the graduate faculty at the City University of New York. Previously, Shull held several positions with the Federal Reserve Board and served as senior economist in the office of the Comptroller of Currency. (In a possible sign of things to come, brokerage powerhouse Charles Schwab Corp. announced on May 10 that it may buy a bank to have greater control of its clients’ money, if new Financial Accounting Standards Board rules are adopted.)
