LAI International Inc., a parts maker for the aerospace and defense sectors, has acquired Zak Inc.

LAI, which is backed by middle-market private equity firm RLJ Equity Partners, bought the Green Island, N.Y.-based target for an undisclosed price. Zak manufactures and supplies precision machined and custom fabricated components for customers in power generation, specialty metals, and oil and gas.

Similar deals have also cropped up as of late. Recently, H-D Advanced Manufacturing Co. agreed to buy Crown Precision Machining, a maker of parts used in aerospace and defense applications. In early October, Banyan Investment Partners led a buyout of Waples Manufacturing Inc., a Fort Worth, Texas-based provider of precision machined solutions, from Southlake Equity Group LLC. Terms of each deal remain undisclosed.

Earlier this year, RLJ Equity acquired EnviroVac Industrial Cleaning Services, a Savannah, Georgia-based provider of environmental and industrial maintenance services, in a leveraged buyout transaction.
