Private equity firm the Riverside Co. has closed a deal for Chilton Consulting Group, which it added to Alchemy Systems.

Rocky Face, Georgia-based Chilton is a food-safety and quality-consulting services firm that aims to help customers comply with industry standards and improve safety, quality, yield and productivity. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Alchemy, headquartered in Austin, Texas, provides software and training services to food companies with the goal of improving worker safety and productivity. Riverside expects the add-on to enhance Alchemy's service offerings. Riverside previously acquired Catalyst Awareness, in October 2013, to add to Alchemy. Riverside bought Alchemy in January 2013.

New York and Cleveland-based Riverside has a history of investing in both technology and education companies. In December the company invested in Mintra Trainingportal AS, a learning-management system developer that provides training to energy-sector employees. The firm's co-CEOs won Mergers & Acquisitions M&A Mid-Market Dealmakers of the Year award for 2013.

Wells Fargo provided financing for the deal, and Jones Day and Deloitte advised Riverside.
