Alvarez & Marsal — Leslie Nielson (pictured) has joined the firm as managing director and head of the firm’s growing global human resources tax practice. She is based in New York. Nielson joins the firm from Aon Hewitt in London, where she was a partner, specializing on deals in the Europe, Middle East and Asia regions.  Earlier in her career, she served as a member of the human resources transaction services team at PwC in New York, specializing in employee benefits and compensation due diligence for global M&A projects.


Bayside Capital — The London-based distressed debt and special situations affiliate of private investment firm H.I.G. Capital has promoted Sensu Serpen to managing director. Serpen joined Bayside in 2008. She has worked on sourcing and trading distressed and performing credits in primary and secondary markets. Prior to Bayside, she held director positions in distressed and special situations groups at both Barclays Capital plc and Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC)


Holland & Knight LLP — The Miami law firm hired Stefanie Box as a partner. Box, who previously served as legal counsel for Koch Industries Inc. and its wholly-owned subsidiary Georgia-Pacific LLC, will be a part of Holland & Knight's public companies and securities team in Atlanta where she will focus on representing corporate clients. Over the past nine years, Box closed more than 30 significant corporate transactions and represented Koch Industries and its subsidiaries in a number of corporate finance matters. Prior to joining Koch, she was a transactional associate in the Dallas office of Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP.


McGuireWoods LLP — The Richmond, Va.-based law firm tapped Barbara Spudis de Marigny for its tax and employee benefits practice as a partner. She will be based in McGuireWoods’ Houston branch. A 30-year M&A veteran, Spudis de Marigny specializes in the energy industry, especially oilfield services. Prior to joining McGuireWoods, de Marigny was a managing director with the mergers and acquisitions tax practice at KPMG LLP in Houston.


Sklar Kirsh LLP — Mark Nicoletti, who joined the Los Angeles-based law firm in March 2013 as of counsel, was called up to partner. He will remain part of the firm's real estate practice. Before Sklar, Nicoletti was a member of the real estate practice at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP, also in Los Angeles, and Snell & Wilmer LLP, in Las Vegas.


Thoma Bravo LLC —The Chicago-based private equity investment firm promoted Robert ‘Tre’ Sayle to partner. Sayle joined Thoma Bravo in 2005 and was most recently a principal in the firm’s San Francisco office. Sayle’s prior experience includes positions at JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) in New York and Hambrecht & Quist in San Francisco. Sayle serves as a board member for each of the firm's software portfolio companies, including Embarcadero Technologies Inc., Empirix Inc., Entrust Inc., InfoVista SA, LANDesk Software Inc., Network Instruments LLC, SonicWALL Inc. and Tripwire Inc.
