Akoya Capital Partners — The Chicago investment firm hired Ken Kunin as managing director. His past experience includes president and CEO of engineering company Arens Controls LLC, which was sold to Curtiss-Wright Corp. (NYSE:CW) in 2013 for $98 million. Kunin also served as executive vice president of electronic components manufacturer Cherry Corp. and president of Cherry Automotive.
Carlyle Group (Nasdaq: CG) — The Washington, D.C. asset management firm promoted two managing directors: Brian Bernasek and Stephen Wise. Bernasek has been named head of the global industrial and transportation team while Wise teams with Karen Bechtel as co-heads of the global healthcare team. Bernasek, who joined Carlyle in 2000, succeeds Greg Ledford, a 25-year Carlyle veteran, who will continue as a managing director. Brechtel and Wise joined Carlyle in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
CenterOak Partners LLC — The Dallas-based private equity firm, currently under the helm of managing partner Randall Fojtasek, hired Jeff Moredock to join its ranks. Moredock previously served as an associate with Brazos Private Equity, the shop Fojtasek co-founded in 1999. Brazos began to wind down in the Spring of 2014, just as CenterOak was beginning to take off. Separately, the firm hired Megan Kneipp and Casey Gribble. Kneipp joins CenterOak as a vice president, while Gribble comes on board as an associate.
Citizens Financial Group Inc. (NYSE: CFG)— The Providence, Rhode Island-based advisory firm named a new head of commercial banking. Donald McCree, a 31-year veteran of JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM), was recently named vice chairman overseeing the commercial banking unit. At JPMorgan, McCree held a variety of leadership roles, including head of corporate banking, CEO of global treasury services and head of global credit markets before retiring in mid-2014. The commercial banking vice chairman role at Citizens had been held by Robert Matthews, who died in December 2014. Bob Rubino and Steve Woods both served as interim co-heads of commercial banking and will remain in those roles until McCree arrives in September. Separately, Patrick Moody has been hired as a director. Previously a managing director for SunTrust Robinson Humphrey and a vice president for Wachovia Bank, he most recently worked as a business development officer at First Capital in Atlanta. In a similar post is vice president Travis Hunt, who has also been hired as business capital originator for Citizens Commercial Banking. Hunt was also previously at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey where he was on the asset-based lending team in Atlanta.
DLA Piper — Tom Furlong joined the London law firm's San Francisco office. Previously, he was a managing director at Granite Ventures for more than 13 years. Other posts Furlong has held were at Zhone Technologies and at San Diego-based Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich, which merged with Piper Rudnick LLP in Chicago to create DLA in 2005.
Moelis & Co. — Benjamin Reitzes will join the New York investment bank as a managing director advising clients in the technology sector. Reitzes joins from Barclays Capital, and formerly Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., where he was a managing director, global sector coordinator of technology. Before joining Lehman in 2008, he was a managing director at UBS Investment Bank, which he joined in November 2000.
Thoma Bravo LLC —The Chicago private equity, which recently won the 2014 M&A Mid-Market Award for Best Deal of the Year, has created a new position expected to strengthen the financing strategies of Thoma Bravo's portfolio. Erwin Mock has been hired for the role as director of capital markets. He will be based out of Thoma Bravo’s San Francisco office. Mock most recently served as a managing director at UBS Investment Bank. Prior to that, he served as director at RBC Capital Markets.
WS Packaging Group — The portfolio company ofprivate equity firm J.W. Childs Associates LP appointed Charlie Eitel CEO. The move is effective as of Wednesday, April 1. Eitel joins the company in an operating role after having served on the company’s board of directors since May 2014. Over the course of his career, Eitel has held leadership positions, including CEO, at several companies, including Simmons Bedding Co., Interface, Inc. and Collins & Aikman Floorcoverings. Eitel currently serves on the board of directors of Mattress Firm (Nasdaq: MFRM), Duke Realty Corp. (NYSE: DRE), and American Fidelity Assurance Corp.
