Crowell & Moring LLP – The Washington D.C. law firm hired Jeffrey Smith as partner in its environment and natural resources groups in New York. Smith joins from Cravath Swaine & Moore LLP, where he was a partner and head of the firm's environmental law group, as well as the former managing partner of administration.


Insight Venture Partners – The New York venture capital firm named Richard Wells and Alex Crisses managing directors. Crisses, who has been at Insight for 10 years, previously worked as an analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston. Wells joined Insight in 2005, after working at Technology Crossover Ventures, Veritas Software and Paciolan Systems.


O’Melveny & Myers LLP – The international law firm announced that 15 new partners will be admitted to the firm as of Feb. 1. They include Shannon Barrett and Michael Walsh in Washington D.C., where the firm is based, as well as David Schultz and B. Andrew Bednark in New York. The majority of that slate included eight partners across the firm’s California offices, with Nancy Bruington and Kenneth Deutsch in Century City; Andrew Parlen, Catalina Joos Vergara and Jeffrey Fowler in Los Angeles; Andrew Dolak in Newport Beach; Adam KohSweeney in San Francisco and Jennifer DePalma in Silicon Valley. In Asia, the firm enlisted three: Mangyo Kinoshita in Tokyo, Bingna Guo in Beijing and Andrew Hutton in Singapore.


Vinson & Elkins LLP – The firm promoted 14 of its lawyers to partner on Jan. 1. Eight of the promotions are out of Texas, with Milam Newby and Michael Valek in Austin; Timothy Johnston, Myles Reynolds and Todd Way in Dallas; and Shay Kuperman, John Michael and Kaam Sahely in Houston. Nicholas Song, David Lang and Tju Liang joined Vinson & Elkins’ Asian energy team and will work out of the firm’s Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai offices respectively. Mark Beeley and Robert Dixon are now partners at the firm’s litigation practice in London, while Hilary Preston continues to work out of New York.
