Interactive Health is buying Health Solutions for an undisclosed amount.

Health Solutions, headquartered in Owings Mills, Md., provides onsite wellness services to organizations.

Schaumburg, Ill.-based Interactive Health provides services that are designed to engage employees in health management through early detection of risk factors. The company developed a "smart testing" and personalized health risk assessments that can help identify health problems.

The acquisition allows Interactive Health to become the largest independent company that offers integrated workplace wellness services, the company says in a statement. Interactive Health will now have clients in 50 states, Canada, the UK and Turkey. The company has plans to expand to Poland and Mexico.

Interactive Health is backed by private equity firm CI Capital Partners, which bought the company in 2011. CI Capital is also invested in Physical Therapy Network, A-T Solutions and Ply Gem Industries.

Much of the M&A in the health care sector has been fueled by the Affordable Care Act, which emphasises consumer involvement.

Recent health care deals include 3M's (NYSE: MMM) purchase of Treo Solutions, which provides data analytics services to health care companies, and  GSI Group Inc.'s (Nasdaq: GSIG) acquisition of Jadak Technologies Inc.
