Private equity-backed MW Industries Inc. purchased Mohawk Spring Corp., a custom precision spring manufacturer, based outside of Chicago.

Headquartered in Schiller Park, Ill., Mohawk manufactures precision springs and wire forms and has some 300 customers.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but MW’s owner, Genstar Capital LLC, typically commits between $50 million and $300 million of equity per investment, according to its website.

San Francisco-based Genstar acquired MW in June 2011 for undisclosed terms. This is the second bolt-on transaction for MW in 2013. In January, the Rosemont, Ill.-based company picked up LifeLine Products, a Wallingford, Conn.-based company that makes hypodermic needles. The move served as an expansion to MW's precision manufactured products unit.

Mohawk makes springs that are used for various components—coupling devices, pumps, electronic assemblies—when it comes to heating systems, electrical distribution, irrigation, computer technology, home appliance, construction equipment, medical devices and aerospace.

End products vary from valves and pumps to door mechanisms and electronic assemblies.
