Genstar Capital Management LLC has combined ISqFt and BidClerk into one software company that will serve the construction industry.

Both companies provide project data, analytics and software tools for construction businesses. Cincinnati-based ISqFt's primary offerings include lead generation, project management and network projection for contractors, as well as document management, delivered through a software-as-a-service system. Chicago-based Bid Clerk's focus is on cloud-based construction project data and marketing tools for building products companies, contractors and distributors. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

San Francisco-based Genstar is a private equity firm with $3 billion in capital commitments. In August, the firm agreed to buy the equipment manufacturing business of Symmetry medical Inc. for $450 million. In June, Genstar bought Asset International Inc., which provides data-related services for the investment community.

As construction has picked up throughout the U.S., so has M&A in the building products sector. September saw several deals: Symphony Technology Group bought McGraw Hill Construction, a construction data and analytics company, for $320 million; Audax Group bought Chase Industries, which manufactures and distributes doors; and Ridgemont Equity Partners made a majority investment in the Cook & Boardman Group, a building products company.
