Private equity has long played in the highly fragmented, low-barrier-to-entry fitness franchise space. Few franchises have attracted as much PE attention as Anytime Fitness, the largest fitness franchise in the country. Emerging manager Rainier Partners is the latest PE shop to sign up, acquiring nearly 70 Anytime locations last month, and the Seattle-based firm says it wants more.
