In this week’s roundup of middle-market hirings and promotions, highlights include: Thomas Caruso’s joining Guardian Capital; Maggie Schmitt’s promotion at JMI Equity; and Kevin Smith’s promotion at CD&R.

Thomas Caruso has been hired by Guardian Capital Partners as a partner. He was previously with Graham Partners.

Larry Contrella has been promoted to general partner at JMI Equity. He joined the PE firm in 2010.

David Duke has been promoted to partner and David Hare has been promoted to vice president at private equity firm Kian Capital Partners.

Akhil Johri was hired by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice as an operating partner. He is the former chief financial officer of United Technologies Corp.

Michael Rapport has been promoted to partner at private equity firm Behrman Capital. Calvert Thomas has been promoted to principal and Kyle Grace to vice president.

Maggie Schmitt (pictured) has been promoted chief financial officer at JMI Equity. She joined the PE firm in 2009.

Kevin Smith has been promoted to partner at Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. He joined CD&R in 2011 as a senior member of the firm’s investor relations and fundraising team.

Joshua Zachariah has been hired as a partner by law firm Goodwin where he is focusing on M&A. He was previously with Kirkland & Ellis.
