Private equity firms looking for their next wave of consolidation opportunities are increasingly turning to an overlooked corner of the aviation industry. While airlines and airports garner most of the public attention, investors are pursuing deals across the ecosystem of businesses that keep aircrafts flying – from fixed-base operators serving private jets to maintenance, repair and overhaul providers benefiting from an aging global fleet.

Rising passenger volumes, growing business aviation activity and a highly fragmented competitive landscape are creating fertile conditions for middle-market dealmaking. Industry participants say the strongest interest is centered on sectors where growth in demand intersects with significant consolidation opportunities.
