Social networking and microblogging service Twitter Inc. has acquired Marakana.

Marakana is an open source training program. The group began teaching classes at Twitter several months ago.

San Francisco-based Twitter plans to use Marakana’s resources to lead its Twitter University program. Twitter University offers Twitter engineering employees technical training, orientation classes and other programs for those looking to develop new skills. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Twitter expects the deal to help its engineering employees learn new skills.
