Total Merchant Services says it will expand its tablet-based point of sale and cloud-based offerings after acquiring Registroid LLC and its products.

Registroid's software operates on most Android devices and includes a back-office system that allows merchants to manage devices and inventory online. Woodland Hills, Calif.-based TMS did not disclose the price of the acquisition in a Jan. 7 press release.

"Registroid's technology and team are a perfect fit to help accelerate our mission of enabling our customers' success," Joe Kaplan, CEO of Total Merchant Services, states in the press release. "Tablet point of sale is where the retail sales experience is heading."

Registroid Pro, currently available as a free application on Google Play, operates as a single-device point of sale system with the basic functions that a single-lane merchant would use, TMS says. An upgrade to Registroid Cloud adds multiple-lane functions, online reporting and point of sale management.

TMS provides integrated credit card processing for both apps, the company says. Merchants can enroll for credit card processing through the TMS online application.

TMS emphasizes its commitment to small and mid-size businesses with Registroid and Fanminder, which TMS bought last year, Kaplan says.

"As Total Merchant Services expands its offerings into the cloud to become a full-service software company, we are excited about the future and look forward to providing new opportunities for our customers and sales partners," Kaplan adds.

Registroid is based in Mobile, Ala. and has focused on Android point of sale systems for general retail and restaurant markets.

Total Merchant Services has operated as an independent sales organization since 1996 with a focus of providing free equipment to complement its POS and business management software, and processing services for small-business merchants.
