Sun Capital Partners Inc. is buying Aclara Technologies LLC from Esco Technologies Inc. (NYSE: ESE).

St. Louis, Mo., Aclara provides advanced meter-infrastructure services, which are used by U.S. electric, gas and water utilities. The services include the two-way communication device in a meter, as well as the supporting network infrastructure for meters that allow utilities to receive real time data remotely. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sun Capital Partners, headquartered in Boca Raton, Fla., is a private equity firm that has invested in more than 335 companies. In March, Sun Capital portfolio company Sleep Innovations agreed to buy Flexible Foam Products Inc. In December, Sun Capital sold its stake in Wasbash Technologies to Sensata Technologies. 

Esco Technologies, based in St. Louis, provides utility services, testing services and filtration products.

Other recent utility deals include Falfurrias Capital Partners' deal for Advanced Control Systems, which makes products that control power transmission, and Star Gas Partners LP's (NYSE: SGU) purchase of Griffith Energy Services Inc.
