Steven Madden Ltd. (Nasdaq: SHOO), in connection with fashion designer Brian Atwood, has acquired the Brian Atwood intellectual property and related assets from the Jones Group Inc. (NYSE: JNY).

The deal includes the Brian Atwood and B Brain Atwood apparel brands, headquartered in Milan.  The Brian Atwood brand is available at high-end retailers, including Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, Net-a-Porter and various boutiques.

Atwood will have full operational and creative control for the design, production and distribution of the collection.

Long Island City, N.Y.-based Steve Madden designs, sources and markets footwear and accessories for women, men and children. The company's brands include Steve Madden, Steven by Steve Madden, Madden Girl, Betsey Johnson, Betseyville, Report Signature, Big Buddha, Cejon, Mad Love and others.

The Jones Group is an apparel and footwear company that owns the Stuart Weitzman, Rachel Roy, Kurt Geiger, Jones New York, Anne Klein, Enzo Angiolini, Easy Spirit and other brands. The company may go private, and has a $1.2 billion offer from private equity firm Sycamore Partners

Other recent consumer goods transactions include Blackstone Group's purchase of a stake in fashion house Gianna Versace SPAin February for $288 million, and Cherokee Inc.'s (Nasdaq: CHKE) deal for the Tony Hawk apparel brands
