Roark Capital Group has added James Collins to its team to source and develop franchise investments for the PE firm.

Neal Aronson, founder and managing partner of Roark Capital Group, said that Collins’ addition brings to the organization an opportunity to develop consumer and retail opportunities.

Collins was a principal at Stone Tower Equity Partners most recently, a $2.5 billion private equity firm; he also served as a director at Parish Capital Advisors and a principal at Brockmann, Rosser, Sherrill & Co. He began his career with Bain & Co.

Earlier this year, Roark added former Cinnabon president Geoff Hill as it prepares to make plays in the consumer and retail space; the PE shop recently bought Pet Valu, a Canadian retailer and distributor of pet food and supplies.

Middle market firms have been broadening their payrolls at a time when their bulge bracket counterparts are bleeding talent. MidCap Advisors added Robert Fader to its Chicago branch recently, Jeanie Sell Latz to its Kansas City arm and Steve Smith to its San Francisco office.

Henry Elphick, Tommy Erdei and Probir Rao each joined Jefferies last month and managing directors and Gil Bar-Nahum joins as a senior vice president, and Andrew Clayton came on as a vice president—all from UBS.
