Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc. (NYSE: RRTS) has purchased some of Transport Corporation of America Inc.’s assets for $1.2 million, in the company's latest attempt at increasing its international logistics capabilities.

The acquired group, called TA Drayage, transports imports and exports for steamship lines and intermodal marketing companies from the ports of Charleston, S.C., Norfolk, Va., and Savannah, Ga. The group also services rail ramps in Atlanta, Memphis and Birmingham, Ala.

Roadrunner, headquartered in Cudahy, Wis., provides transportation and logistics services. The company financed the deal with cash on hand. The deal increases the scale of Roadrunner’s intermodal services in the southeast U.S., the company said in a statement.

In July, Roadrunner paid $66 million for Marisol International LLC, a logistics company, to increase its international logistics capabilities.
