Private equity-owned Boutique of Quality Books Publishing Co. Inc. (BQB) has agreed to buy independent publishing company WriteLife LLC for an undisclosed price.
WriteLife will become the second imprint for Atlanta-based BQB.
Established in 2010, BQB specializes in helping authors self-publish fiction for adults and children.
By adding WriteLife, BQB’s catalog expands to about 100 titles.
“Our intention is to have genre fiction be the focus of our BQB imprint, and our WriteLife imprint will focus on literary fiction and nonfiction from self-help to memoirs and beyond,” states BQB chief executive Terri Leidich.
BQB is backed by Prairie Ventures. Both companies are based in Omaha, Nebraska.
The book publishing industry has seen a flurry of M&A activity. Among the most notable deals, Pearson plc (NYSE: PSO) and Bertelsmann AG combined their publishing companies, creating Penguin Random House in 2013.
Also in 2013, Turner Publishing acquired publishing assets from John Wiley & Sons Inc. (NYSE: JWa JWb), including up to 1,500 titles.
