The Playtex unit of Energizer Holdings Inc. (NYSE: ENR) is buying the Stayfree, Carefree and ob feminine hygiene brands for $185 million. The brands are being sold by McNeil PPC Inc. and Johnson & Johnson Inc. (NYSE: JNJ).

The buyer expects to combine the brands, which make feminine pads, liners and tampons, with the Playtex brand. The sale includes the brands in U.S. and Canada, as well as a manufacturing plant in Montreal.

Energizer, headquartered in St. Louis, Mo., owns a wide range of well-known consumer brands, including battery brands Energizer and Eveready; and personal hygiene brands Schick, Wilkinson Sword, Edge, Skintimate, Banana Boat, Hawaiian Tropic, Wet Ones.

Goldman Sachs & Co. (NYSE: GS) acted as Energizer’s financial adviser on the deal.
