Akerman LLP— The Miami law firm opened a Chicago office, to be led by partners Kasey Folk and Eric Gribbin. Joining them is associate Julia Lissner, who represents financial institutions, public and private companies. The attorneys were each previously with Chicago-based law firm Ulmer & Berne LLP.


Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) — Subrata Bhattacharjee, an anti-trust specialist, has joined the Calgary, Alberta law firm as partner and national vice chair of the competition and foreign investment review group. Subrata will be involved in BLG's international business practice, especially Asia. Separately, the firm announced that Jon Smithen and Gregory McLean have joined as associates.


Camber Holdings — The Boston-based private equity firm tapped Emily Lord (pictured) to serve as vice president. In this position, Lord will focus on deal sourcing and origination. Previously at Boston private equity firm Watermill Group, Lord served as director of deal origination. (For more, see the October cover story of Mergers  & Acquisitions.)


Genstar Capital Management LLC — The San Francisco private equity firm promoted Roman Margolin to principal and Katie Solomon to director.  Prior to joining Genstar in 2008, Margolin was an associate with Willis Stein & Partners. Later promoted to vice president in 2011, Margolin went on to serve on the boards of various Genstar portfolio companies, including eResearch Technology Inc., Granite Global Solutions Inc. and Netsmart Technologies Inc. In 2011, Solomon jumped from Vector Capital to Genstar as vice president, human capital—a position focused on hiring new talent.


Greenhill & Co. — Patricia Moran has joined the New York investment bank as a managing director and chief legal officer. A 30-year M&A veteran, Moran was a partner at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP where she covers private equity, restructurings, corporate governance and general corporate and securities law. Separately, Gavin Solotar, a general counsel since 2012, has been named managing director the corporate advisory business.


K&L Gates LLP — Arturo Meglio has joined the law firm's Milan office as a partner. Previously with Bird & Bird LLP, Meglio advises public companies and private equity fund on cross-border transactions, especially in Italy. His practice includes the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, transportation and food sectors.


Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP — The Philadelphia law firm added several new players to its bench: Mark Williams, a partner in the energy practice at the firm's Washington, D.C. office; Ann Chamberlain, of counsel in the financial services practice in the New York office; Daniel Nelson, a tax partner based in Boston; and Gerald Kehoe, a partner in private investment funds group, also in Boston.


Nomura Holdings Inc. — The Tokyo investment bank's global head of mergers and acquisitions, Kenji Kimura, has been named global head of human resources. Stepping into his previous role is Shinsuke Tsunoda, former head of Japan M&A.
