Alpine Investors — The San Francisco private equity firm hired Mark Strauch (pictured) as a partner. Most recently, he was president and chief executive of EDC, a financial technology company backed by Alpine that was acquired in 2011 by Cardtronics for $145 million. Over the years, Strauch has held operating positions at various frims, including Accenture, Electronic Arts Inc. and Broadview International, a technology-focused investment boutique that was acquired by Jefferies & Co. in December 2003.


Dykema Gossett PLLC J. Alexandra Rhim (pictured) joined the firm’s Los Angeles office as senior counsel in the bankruptcy practice. Rhim was previously at Buchalter Nemer, where she was a bankruptcy practitioner in the firm's insolvency and financial solutions practice since 1997.


Gleacher & Company Securities Inc. — Kevin Sisson has joined the broker-dealer subsidiary of Gleacher & Co. Inc. (Nasdaq: GLCH) as a managing director. He is based in the investment banking division at the firm's New York office. Sisson joins Gleacher with more than 15 years of financial services experience, most recently serving as a senior partner and co-founder of Cyan Partners LP, a middle-market direct lending fund focused on providing unitranche, senior secured and mezzanine debt financing.


ICAP plc — The London-based company, which provides post trade and information services, has hired Stephen Velgot as an analyst for ICAP’s U.S. institutional event driven-merger arbitrage desk.


Jordan Edmiston Group Inc. — The New York investment bank brought in Chris Calton as a managing director. At Jordan Edmiston, he is expected to help expand the firm’s advisory practice into the healthcare information technology and related software industries. Calton was previously a managing director in investment banking at Avondale Partners, where he worked In a similar capacity. Before Avondale, Calton was an associate at Thomas Weisel Partners LLC in San Francisco and New York.


Lazard Middle Market Doug Lawson joined as a managing director and head of packaging within Lazard’s industrials group. He is based in Chicago. Prior to joining Lazard, Lawson was a managing director and head of the packaging group at BMO Capital Markets in Chicago. Before that, he was a principal at Piper Jaffray. Lawson has held senior positions at several other firms, including ABN Amro, Duff & Phelps Credit Rating Co., law firm McCarthy Tétrault and Ernst & Young in Toronto. Lazard Middle Market is a subsidiary of Lazard Ltd. (NYSE: LAZ).


McDermott Will & Emery LLP — The law firm appointed international arbitration lawyers Sabine Konrad and Lisa Richman as partners in the firm's Frankfurt and Washington offices, respectively. They arrive from K&L Gates LLP and specialize in international investment treaty arbitration.


Sidley Austin LLP — William McConagha has joined the law firm in its Washington, D.C. office as a partner in its food, drug and medical device practice. McConagha joins Sidley from the U.S. Food And Drug Administration where he spent roughly 17 years. While there, he acted as the health policy adviser to the chairs of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and played a key role in drafting the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act and FDA Food Safety and Innovation Act of 2012.


Silverfleet Capital — The European private equity firm announced three promotions. Mark Piasecki was named a principal, while Robert Knight and Cyril Bourdarot each became investment executives. Piasecki joined the firm in 2007 after working in the consumer and retail investment banking team at Citigroup Inc. He and Knight will each be based in London, while Bourdarot will work in Paris. Knight and Bourdarot both joined Silverfleet in 2011 from Ecocert, a French environmental consultancy business, and NM Rothschild, respectively.


Twin Capital Management LLC — The New York-based hedge fund appointed Richard Fitzgerald as vice president and analyst. Before joining Twin Capital, Fitzgerald served as an analyst covering special situations with Jefferies & Co.'s long/short equity hedge fund, Dakota Fund. He also served as an analyst at Castle Point Capital Management where he was one of six investment professionals managing a $400 million long/short fund. Previously, Fitzgerald was an associate at Flexpoint Partners where he focused on the financial services and health care sectors and an analyst at Lazard Frères & Co. where he worked on bankruptcies and out-of-court restructurings.


Western Reserve Partners — David Mariano has rejoined the Cleveland firm as a director. Mariano will focus exclusively on building Western Reserve’s buy-side advisory practice and developing relationships with companies looking to make acquisitions. Before Western Reserve, Mariano spent three years at the Horsburgh & Scott Co. in various roles, including business analysis, marketing, business development and strategy.
