Actis — The private equity firm appointed Arjun Oberoi as global healthcare sector head, and Ivy Santoso as Indonesian country head. Previously, Santoso spent more than 10 years as Indonesian country head for Avenue Capital, a New York-based investment firm. Oberoi was head of international strategy and business development at medical device company Stryker Corp. He has also held leadership positions at McKinsey & Co.’s healthcare practice in New York, Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) and Sanofi SA (NYSE:SNY).


Clarion Partners LLC — The real estate investment firm has promoted Gary Rufrano to director. He is expected to focuses on acquisition and development opportunities in the Northeast and Midwest regions of the U.S., as well as Texas. Refrano joined the firm in 2001. He was most recently a senior vice president. Richard Schaupp, who has been with Clarion since 2000, was also named a director, focusing on investment activities in Brazil. Other promotions to director include Tim Wang, head of the Clarion’s investment research group, and Douglas Wolski, assistant portfolio manager. Both joined the firm in 2006.


Crosslink Capital — David Courtney has joined the equity provider as a general partner and chief operating officer. He will be based in San Francisco. Previously, he served as chief executive of mobile advertising company JiWire Inc.


M&A Group — The advisory firm added Robert Briese as vice president in Minneapolis where he will be responsible for originating and executing transactions. Prior to joining M&A Group, RBriese held various positions at several firms, including PiperJaffray & Co., McGladrey Capital Markets, BearingPoint Inc. and Insider Capital Group.


McGladrey LLP — The assurance, tax and consulting services firm announced its hiring of Rich Albano and Vipul Barbhaya as directors in the transaction advisory services practice. In their new roles, Albano and Barbhaya will provide financial due diligence services to private equity investors and corporate acquirers. Barbhaya specializes in sell-side due diligence out of Chicago, while Albano advises clients on financial analysis in New York.


Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy — The law firm added attorney Stuart Morrissy to the firm’s global securities practice in New York. Morrissy arrives from the NY office of Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP. He regularly advises both investment banks and securities issuers in capital markets transactions, including merger and acquisition financing, debt/equity offerings, convertible notes, high-yield instruments, and exchange/tender offers. Morrisy has also handled numerous bankruptcy matters - including some notable pre-packaged bankruptcies - representing debtors, creditors and equity holders during balance-sheet restructurings of distressed companies.


Nova Capital Management Ltd. — The London-based private equity firm opened up a headquarters in Chicago. This is Nova’s first office in the U.S. David Jacobs (pictured), a former Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank executive, subsequently joins the firm as an investment partner. Some of Jacobs' previous financial and advisory services to clients include work with MolsonCoors and SABMiller plc in creating MillerCoors, the sale of Nabisco Holdings to Philip Morris International Inc. (NYSE: PM), the sale of Snapple to Cadbury Schweppes plc and the acquisition of Slim-Fast and Ben & Jerry's by Unilever plc (LON: ULVR).


San Francisco Employees’ Retirement System (SFERS) — SFERS added Art Wang to its investment staff as a managing director for private markets. His most recent role was with the New York State Common Retirement Fund (CRF), where as director of private equity, he oversaw a $15 billion portfolio.Wang is expected to lead the system’s investments in private equity and real estate.
