Arnold & Porter LLP – The London law firm hired Anna Buscall as a partner, specializing in regulatory, intellectual property and product liability capabilities. Buscall was previously at Allen & Overy LLP, which she joined in 1998.


AXIS Capital Holdings Ltd. – John Nichols has joined the Bermuda-based holding company as chief executive, effective April 2. He will assume responsibility for the leadership and management of all reinsurance business units. Nichols is the former president of RenaissanceRe Ventures Ltd., also in Bermuda.


BDO Capital Advisors LLC – The middle-market boutique investment bank appointed John Kearney as a managing director at the firm’s Dallas office. Prior to joining BDO, Kearney was a founding member and managing director of Dumas Capital Partners, a corporate finance and merchant banking firm also based in Dallas. Before Dumas, he served as executive vice president of corporate development and director at Daisytek International Corp. Over the years, Kearney has held various leadership positions at F.Y.I. Inc., Rauscher Pierce Refsnes Inc., Raymond James & Associates Inc., The Robinson-Humphrey Co. Inc., The Vault Co. and Deloitte Haskins & Sells.


Dahlman Rose & Co. LLC - The investment bank, which specializes in the natural resource space, launched its OTCQX Markets Group to be headed by managing directors Christopher Weekes and Stephen Nash. The OTCQX division is a trading platform for the securities of established foreign and domestic issuers.


Genstar Capital LLC – The San Francisco-based private equity firm promoted Rob Rutledge and Anthony Salewski to principals. Both were previously Genstar vice presidents. Prior to re-joining Genstar as a senior associate in 2007, Rutledge spent two years as an associate at Genstar from 2003 to 2005, before switching to investment banking at Salomon Smith Barney, also in San Francisco. Prior to joining Genstar in 2007, Salewski was at Barclays Global Investors and, before that, Hellman & Friedman LLC. He began his career in the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley in New York.


H.I.G. Capital – The private equity firm opened offices in Madrid, Spain, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Jaime Bergel has been appointed managing director to lead its efforts in Spain, and Fernando Marques Oliveira has been recruited as managing director to lead the Brazil and Latin America team.


Hunton & Williams LLP – The law firm announced John O’Connor as a partner in its New York office. O’Connor began his career at Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy LLP, where he was a partner in the corporate group for 13 years. While at Milbank, he focused on mergers and acquisitions within the energy and banking services sectors.


JMI Equity – The private equity firm announced three promotions. Jit Sinha became a general partner, while Brian Hersman and Robert Nye were made principals. Sinha and Nye are based in Baltimore. Hersman is based in San Diego. Prior to joining JMI, Sinha was a principal at Bain Capital Ventures. Hersman was previously a senior associate at Vista Equity Partners and an analyst at McKinsey & Co. Nye was a consultant with Bates White, an economic consulting firm.


Paul Hastings LLP – The law firm poached a team of corporate partners from Baker & McKenzie LLP to join its Frankfurt office. They include Regina Engelstaedter, Jan Gernoth and Ali Sahin. Each will join Paul Hastings as partners, focusing on mergers and acquisitions.


Ramius LLC – The investment management business of Cowen Group Inc. announced that Ken Griebell has joined the firm in New York as a director. He joins Ramius from Equinox Fund Management, where he was a managing director.


Ropes & Gray – The firm announced that Matthew Judd has joined its London office as a partner in its private investment funds group. Judd comes to Ropes & Gray from White & Case, where he was a partner and head of the investment funds practice.


Summit Partners – The private equity firm established a new office in Mumbai, to be managed by Amit Chaturvedy as director. Joining him are associates Gaurav Prakash and Miloni Shah.
